Hamish McDonald: A Healthcare Data Expert’s Perspective on Healthcare

We hear a healthcare data expert’s perspective on healthcare from Hamish McDonald during this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Hamish is a member of Generation X and join the podcast from New Zealand. He is passionate about patients owning their own healthcare data and being able to control it as they wish. His mission is to democratize the healthcare data industry. The project started in Japan, moved to Singapore and now has become global.

Here are 3 things that stood out as Hamish McDonald shared a healthcare data expert’s perspective:

· Patients generally don’t have access to their own healthcare data
· When you change the information flow within an industry, you change the power structure
· You can have control over a copy of your healthcare data, determining who has access to it, when and why (including whether or not you can profit from it by sharing your data with a research organization.)
